GhostQuest Privacy Policy

GhostQuest is operated by SideWalk Oracle LLC d/b/a GhostQuest (“GhostQuest,” “we,” “us,” or “our”).

We respect your privacy and designed GhostQuest to provide its core tour and navigation features with minimal collection of personal information.

This Privacy Policy explains how GhostQuest accesses, uses, stores, and handles information when you use the GhostQuest mobile application.

1. Information We Do Not Require

GhostQuest does not require you to create an account or sign in to use the application.

GhostQuest does not require you to provide your name, email address, phone number, mailing address, or other contact information in order to use the app.

Based on the current version of GhostQuest, we do not operate a user-account database containing your tour history or location history.

2. Location Services

GhostQuest uses Apple's Location Services to provide location-based features such as:

  • Displaying your position relative to tour locations

  • Calculating distances to destinations

  • Providing route and navigation information

  • Identifying nearby GhostQuest locations

  • Confirming when you have physically reached a tour location

  • Providing GPS-verified visit status

  • Supporting location-based tour progress

GhostQuest requests location access while you are using the app. The current implementation requests Apple's “When In Use” authorization rather than requiring continuous background-location access. 

Your device's current location is used to calculate proximity and distances to GhostQuest destinations. 

GhostQuest does not maintain a stored history of your raw GPS coordinates in the code currently used by the application. Current location information is used while the app is operating to provide location-based functionality. 

GhostQuest may locally record that you successfully visited or reached a particular tour location, including the GhostQuest location identifier and completion date. 

Location access can be changed or disabled at any time through your device's iOS Location Services settings. Some GhostQuest features, including GPS verification, distance calculations, and location-aware navigation, may not function correctly if location access is disabled.

Apple's App Store privacy guidance states that information processed only on a user's device and not transmitted off the device for collection generally does not constitute “collected” data for App Store privacy disclosures. 

3. Apple Maps and MapKit

GhostQuest uses Apple MapKit and Apple mapping services to display maps, destinations, routes, and other location-related information.

GhostQuest may provide information such as your current location and selected destination to Apple mapping technologies as necessary to provide mapping and routing functionality.

Apple operates its own services and may process information according to Apple's own privacy practices.

GhostQuest does not control Apple's independent collection or processing of information performed by Apple through its platform services.

Apple specifically states that developers are responsible for disclosing information they collect from Apple frameworks, but developers are not responsible for declaring information collected independently by Apple itself. 

4. Tour Progress and Locally Stored Information

GhostQuest stores certain information locally on your device so that the application can remember your progress and preferences.

Depending on the features you use, locally stored information may include:

  • Locations or stories you have viewed

  • GPS-verified visits

  • Completed tour locations

  • Favorite locations

  • Visit or completion dates

  • GhostQuest capture information

  • Notes you create

  • Saved photo references

  • Guided-tour status and selected destinations

The current application stores tour-progress information using Apple's local UserDefaults storage. 

This information is used to provide GhostQuest features such as progress tracking, favorites, GPS-verified visits, certificates, and tour continuity.

GhostQuest does not currently transmit this locally stored tour-progress information to a GhostQuest user-account server.

5. Photos and User Notes

GhostQuest may allow you to create notes or capture/save photographs associated with tour locations.

Notes are stored locally on your device. 

Photos saved through the GhostQuest capture feature are stored in the application's local storage area on your device. 

GhostQuest does not currently upload these photos or notes to a GhostQuest server based on the application code reviewed for this policy.

You should avoid entering sensitive or confidential information into free-form notes if you do not want that information stored on your device.

6. Purchases and In-App Purchases

GhostQuest may be offered as a paid application and may offer additional GhostQuest city tours or other digital content through Apple In-App Purchase.

Purchases will be processed through Apple's App Store and StoreKit systems.

GhostQuest does not directly collect or store your payment-card number or banking information.

Apple states that StoreKit purchases are made using the user's secure App Store account and payment method on file. Apple also states that when payment information is entered through a payment service and the developer never receives access to that payment information, it does not need to be treated as information collected by the developer for the App Store privacy label. 

GhostQuest may receive transaction or entitlement information from Apple that is necessary to determine whether you purchased or have access to a particular GhostQuest product, city, or feature. StoreKit provides applications with transaction and entitlement information for this purpose. 

7. Analytics, Advertising and Tracking

The version of GhostQuest reviewed for this Privacy Policy does not include a GhostQuest account system and, based on the code provided to us for review, does not include third-party advertising or behavioral tracking.

GhostQuest does not sell your personal information.

GhostQuest does not use your location for third-party advertising.

GhostQuest does not use your information to track you across apps or websites owned by other companies.

If analytics, advertising, crash-reporting, cloud storage, or similar third-party services are added in a future version of GhostQuest, this Privacy Policy and the application's App Store privacy disclosures will be updated as appropriate.

Apple requires developers to disclose both their own data collection and relevant collection performed by integrated third-party partners. 

8. Safety Disclaimer

GhostQuest presents a safety notice and Assumption of Risk & Release before allowing the user to continue into the application.

The safety notice reminds users not to operate GhostQuest while driving, to stop walking before interacting with the app, to remain alert for traffic and other hazards, and not to trespass or enter restricted or unsafe property.

Acknowledging the safety notice does not create a GhostQuest user account.

The safety notice is separate from this Privacy Policy and governs certain safety and risk-related aspects of using GhostQuest.

9. Data Retention and Deletion

Most GhostQuest tour information described in this policy is stored locally on the user's device.

GhostQuest includes functionality for resetting locally stored progress information. The current code removes stored viewed locations, GPS verification information, captures, favorites, visit dates, notes, and locally stored GhostQuest capture-photo references when the applicable reset function is used. 

Deleting GhostQuest from your device may also remove application data stored within GhostQuest's local application storage, subject to Apple's iOS storage and backup behavior.

Information independently maintained by Apple, including App Store purchase records, is subject to Apple's policies and account-management systems.

10. Children's Privacy

GhostQuest is not designed to require children to create accounts or provide GhostQuest with personal contact information.

GhostQuest should be used by minors only with appropriate supervision, particularly because the application involves walking, navigating public areas, streets, historic districts, and physical tour locations.

If GhostQuest is ever offered specifically in Apple's Kids Category or begins collecting information from children, additional legal and App Store requirements may apply. Apple imposes additional privacy restrictions on apps intended specifically for children. 

11. Security

GhostQuest is designed to minimize the amount of information transmitted or centrally stored by GhostQuest.

Local application information remains subject to the security protections provided by the user's device and iOS.

No electronic storage or software system can be guaranteed to be completely secure, but GhostQuest seeks to limit privacy risks by keeping core tour-progress information on the user's device whenever practical.

12. Third-Party Services

GhostQuest relies on certain Apple technologies and services, including:

Apple iOS Location Services
Used to determine your location when you authorize location access.

Apple MapKit / Apple Maps
Used for maps, destinations, routing, and navigation-related functionality.

Apple App Store / StoreKit
Used or planned to be used for application purchases and additional digital-content purchases.

Those services are operated by Apple and are subject to Apple's applicable terms and privacy practices.

13. Changes to This Privacy Policy

GhostQuest may update this Privacy Policy when the application, its features, legal requirements, or privacy practices change.

When the policy is updated, the revised version will be posted on the GhostQuest website and the Effective Date at the top of this policy will be changed.

If GhostQuest begins collecting information in a materially different manner, we will update both this policy and our applicable App Store privacy disclosures.
